A series of workshops has been delivered to raise flood awareness and preparedness for some of the many diverse communities in the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley.
University of Sydney’s Centre for Disability Research and Policy and Settlement Services International delivered six workshops between October 2019 and March 2020. They were attended by over 145 people from key language groups in the floodplain including Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and Mandarin speakers.
The workshops included local flood information from NSW SES and emergency preparation activities delivered by the University of Sydney using their Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness tool kit.
The feedback from attendees is that the workshops provided new skills to prepare for emergencies and valuable networking for local individuals and their families.
These workshops were an initiative of the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley Flood Risk Management Strategy.
