Get Ready Animals
Evacuating during a natural disaster such as a flood or fire can be an incredibly stressful situation and is further complicated when pets or livestock are involved. Research has shown that some people may delay evacuation or even refuse to leave, due to concerns about their animals.
To raise awareness, Infrastructure NSW has worked collaboratively with NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES), Department of Primary Industries and Greater Sydney Local Land Services to deliver a campaign targeting animal owners within the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley.
Short videos have been developed, encouraging animal owners to prepare for natural emergencies, including fire and flood. Some videos are tailored to horse owners, some to livestock owners, and others to small pet owners. These videos provide practical ideas and information on steps people can take to make sure their whole family, including their animals, are ready.
Social media posts have the hashtag #GetReadyAnimals where posts are being shared via the Department of Primary Industries channels. This complements the targeted website ‘Get Ready Animals’, where there is additional information on how to prepare and what to do during an emergency. View the Get Ready Animals website here.
If you find yourself in a life-threatening emergency dial 000 (triple zero) immediately or if you need help in floods and storm emergencies phone NSW SES on 132 500.
