Women in Construction hosts second annual NSW Government Building Better Together Forum

Yesterday, the NSW Government Women in Construction team proudly hosted the second annual NSW Government Building Better Together Forum, bringing together over 130 attendees from across government and industry.

The event featured a distinguished lineup of speakers, including government Ministers and industry leaders, and provided a platform for meaningful dialogue on advancing gender equity in construction.

A key highlight was a panel discussion led by Tom Gellibrand, featuring Project Director Adriana Malin and CEO of BESIX Watpac, Mark Baker—the newly appointed head contractor for the Bank Street Park pilot project under the Women in Construction Program. In a first for NSW, Bank Street Park is targeting 50% female participation on the project.

Adriana and Mark shared their strategies for achieving this ambitious goal and discussed broader industry actions to support increased female representation on construction sites.

The Forum also addressed the critical issue of women’s safety onsite through a fireside conversation between NSW Women’s Safety Commissioner Hannah Tonkin and NSW Building Commissioner James Sherrard. The engaging discussion was moderated by Cathryn Greville, CEO of the National Association of Women in Construction.

The Forum also marked the release of the Women in Construction Industry survey report. Now in its third year, the survey of the NSW construction sector offers a rich evidence base built from the voices of women and men across the industry.

This year’s report goes beyond the numbers—revealing three-year trend lines, comparative insights, and evolving workforce dynamics that are shaping the future of construction in NSW.
