NSW Government launches policy to drive digital transformation in infrastructure

Infrastructure NSW, on behalf of the NSW Government, has launched the NSW Infrastructure Digitalisation and Data (IDD) Policy.

The Policy is a major step forward in accelerating the adoption of digital practices and technology across public infrastructure delivery and asset management.

Developed in close collaboration with industry experts and government agencies, the Policy addresses key challenges facing the sector, including stagnant productivity and rising costs. The Policy sets out a clear framework to improve performance across the entire infrastructure lifecycle, from planning and design through to construction and ongoing maintenance.

At its core, the Policy is built around 4 guiding principles and 13 targeted actions that NSW Government infrastructure agencies are required to implement. These actions are designed to accelerate the adoption of digital practices, systems, and technologies throughout the built infrastructure lifecycle.

A central focus of the policy is the establishment of a ‘digital thread’ of seamless, reliable, and interoperable flow of infrastructure data by applying robust data management practices. This digital foundation will enable agencies to make better-informed decisions, drive efficiencies, and deliver improved outcomes for the people of NSW.

The Policy marks a significant milestone in the journey towards a smarter, more efficient, and better-connected future for NSW’s built environment.
