About

Penrith Stadium Refurbishment

The NSW Government has committed to the refurbishment of the existing Penrith Stadium, and support the growing population of Western Sydney and improve sporting infrastructure.

The refurbished Penrith Stadium will help boosting the visitor economy infrastructure. It will not only continue to cater for NRL matches, but also will benefit female matches to support the growth of women’s sport.

Community consultation

To ensure the stadium will meet the needs of the community, a 6-week consultation was held, inviting community members and stakeholders for feedback.

More than 3,000 community members gave their feedback, providing a clear indication of their vision for the Penrith stadium. This included calls for:

  • an improved game day experience along with the addition of modern amenities
  • an activated precinct that operates not only on event days, but throughout the week.

The community strongly values the unique identity of the existing stadium, including the grassed hills and limited corporate presence, and advocated for preserving the general admission hill seating for families to freely move around. During the consultation process, the stakeholders advocated for more food and beverage options, new bathrooms, multiuse purposes, and community space.

Next steps

In response to the feedback, Infrastructure NSW, on behalf of the NSW Government is now working with the Office of Sport, Venues NSW and other stakeholders to confirm the scope of the refurbishment.

A project team has been established to do this work which includes architects, engineers and planning experts.

Once further information is known it will be shared with the public.
