An arts and cultural hot spot on Sydney’s glittering waterfront.
The redevelopment of the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct is a priority infrastructure project for the NSW Government. It will create a public arts and cultural hub on Sydney’s famous waterfront, while preserving its iconic heritage.
On completion, the revitalised Walsh Bay Arts precinct will be home to an expanded group of companies: Sydney Theatre Company, Sydney Dance Company, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Gondwana Choirs, The Song Company, Bell Shakespeare, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Australian Theatre for Young People.
The project includes the refurbishment of facilities in Wharf 4/5 and the creation of new arts facilities and performance venues in Pier 2/3.
Infrastructure NSW is overseeing delivery of this project on behalf of Create NSW.
Where are we in the process?
We are very excited to announce that construction works at Wharf 4/5 are now complete.
After two years of construction, the redeveloped Wharf 4/5 is officially being handed over to Create NSW and its tenants. You can read the latest project update here. The resident performing arts companies and visitors will enjoy rejuvenated, purpose-built facilities and performance spaces, enhanced amenities and more spaces to take in the harbour vista. Read the highlights of the redevelopment journey at Wharf 4/5 here.
Construction at Pier 2/3 will continue as scheduled and remains on track for completion by the end of 2021. Construction updates are provided monthly. Read the latest update.

Access in the precinct
The external walkway around Wharf 4/5 is now open, allowing everyone to walk along the foreshore. The arts tenants will progressively move back to Wharf over the coming months. They will individually announce the resumption of operations and performances on their websites.
The Pier 2/3 walkway will remain closed with construction continuing. However, access will be maintained through the Pier 2/3 breezeway, with traffic controllers to ensure pedestrians can cross safely.
