NSW Infrastructure Digitalisation and Data Policy
The NSW Infrastructure Digitalisation and Data Policy (the Policy) will expedite adoption of digital practices and technologies across NSW Government infrastructure projects and assets.
To ensure consistent standards across agencies, the Policy requires agencies to commit to, prioritise, manage, and invest in digitally enabled practices and technologies. It also sets out the actions and minimum requirements that agencies must follow, to drive productivity and capture the value of data across the sector.
The Policy is framed around 4 principles:
Principle 1
Commit to digitalisation to improve infrastructure delivery and asset management outcomes.
Principle 2
Prioritise the adoption, application, and enablement of digital practices, processes, and technologies.
Principle 3
Manage technology and data as an asset throughout the infrastructure lifecycle.
Principle 4
Invest in capability to advance infrastructure digitalisation.
The Policy will come into effect in April 2027 following an initial 18-month transition period from its October 2025 publication. Agencies are required implement the Policy requirements, with all actions under Principle 1 to be completed as a minimum by April 2027.
The Policy was developed based on extensive consultations with NSW Government agencies, including input and review from a cross-agency Working Group and Steering Committee. The broader Infrastructure Digitalisation Program has been informed by ongoing engagement with industry and academia.
NSW Infrastructure Digitalisation and Data Policy Guide
To support agency compliance and maturity, Infrastructure NSW has developed the NSW Infrastructure Digitalisation and Data Policy Guide: Overview and Foundational Concepts.
The Guidelines explain key Policy concepts, recommend approaches, highlight best practices, and offer insights to help agencies align their infrastructure digital and data processes with Policy expectations.
