Planning approval granted for new Sydney Fish Market
A world class new Sydney Fish Market is one step closer with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment granting planning consent for the project.
Planning approval was granted based on the development of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), public exhibition period and extensive consultation with key stakeholders and the broader community.
Part of the long-awaited revitalisation of Blackwattle Bay, the new Sydney Fish Market will be an iconic Sydney landmark that respects and preserves a vital part of Sydney’s maritime heritage.
The project will deliver adjacent public promenades, a ferry wharf and more than 6,000 square metres of new public open space. It will also improve pedestrian and cycling links and connect more of Glebe and Pyrmont to the water.
Planning consent clears the way for work to begin. Early demolition works are expected to commence in the next month, with a stage one contract to be awarded shortly.
The new Sydney Fish Market is expected to be open in late 2024.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes were on site to announce the milestone.
